The exhibit
The Căluș ritual brings dancers, music and shared performance together in a tradition recognized by UNESCO.
A group moves as a group: stepping, jumping and answering the music. Associated especially with southern Romania, Căluș combines dance with a wider ritual and performative setting. It continues through practitioners who learn from one another and give the tradition a place in contemporary community life.
