Military physician and theorist of consonant psychology · 1902–1978
Ștefan Odobleja
His contribution is best understood as an early interdisciplinary theory, rather than the invention of every later cybernetic or computing technology.
A life behind the work
Odobleja came from a farming family in Mehedinți and studied at Turnu Severin before entering Bucharest’s medical faculty as a military medical student in 1922. He graduated in 1928 and served as an army physician. Alongside medicine, he pursued psychology and logic. His two-volume Psychologie consonantiste appeared in Paris in 1938–1939, exploring recurring relationships across mental and physical processes. The Romanian Academy recognises him as a precursor of generalised cybernetics. It elected him posthumously in 1990, twelve years after his death.
