CET-500 transistor computer
Victor Toma and the IFA team
The idea
CET-500 combined transistors and ferrite-core working memory in a Romanian second-generation computer.
The next generation replaced vacuum-tube circuitry with transistors. Toma’s account dates CET-500 to 1964 and records its presentation at the Bucharest International Fair. It represents a distinct computer architecture in the Romanian research programme, rather than the invention of transistors themselves.
