Physician and gerontology researcher · 1897–1988
Ana Aslan
Her lasting institutional contribution was sustained medical and scientific attention to the lives and needs of older people.
A life behind the work
Aslan was born in Brăila and studied medicine in Bucharest between 1915 and 1922. She later taught at the medical faculty in Timișoara and worked at Bucharest’s Institute of Endocrinology. From 1952 until her death, she directed the Institute of Geriatrics. With her team she developed the procaine-based formulation Gerovital H3, presented internationally in 1956, and began work on Aslavital in 1960. Her career helped establish Romanian gerontological research. The formulations’ historical anti-aging claims should not be confused with established proof of rejuvenation.
