Stereoscopic cinematography
Dumitru Daponte
The idea
Daponte patented a cinematographic method that varies the visibility of stereoscopically related views to produce a depth effect.
Two related views can suggest depth when their projection is carefully controlled. Daponte’s US patent, filed in 1924 and granted in 1929, describes changing illumination or image definition between views. It documents a Romanian contribution to stereoscopic cinema, not the invention of every form of 3D glasses.

Two views, one scene
Separate two drawings of the same object. Different views can give each eye different information.
A simplified principle to explore. This illustration is not a historical replica or a vision test.
