Selective petroleum refining

The idea

Edeleanu developed a refining process that separated aromatic hydrocarbons using liquid sulfur dioxide.

At the Vega refinery in Ploiești, chemical research became an industrial separation process. The University of Bucharest museum dates the invention to 1908 and reproduces Edeleanu’s own account of testing and developing it with collaborators.
